Since The French Legation has been closed for preservation work by the Texas Historical Commission, the Legation Boules Club meets to play Petanque every Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Robert Mueller Hangar at 4209 Airport Blvd. When possible, we will meet on the scenic grounds of the French Legation Museum, just east of IH35 at 802 San Marcos Street. The historic legation building was built in 1841 as France’s presence in the new Republic of Texas. It is managed and operated by the Texas Historical Commission. The building is the oldest frame structure in Austin and is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and is also a Texas Historic Landmark. This year the French Legation turns 176 years old. We hope we will be able to return to the Légation on a regular basis in 2019!

There are many different systems for organizing tournaments, each with its own advantages and drawbacks. In a mêlée tournament, individual players draw for their partner and the teams stay together for the entire tournament. Everybody gets the chance to play with and against different players – a good way of improving your game. In this carousel doublet tournament, each player is randomly matched with another, changing partners each match. Scores are kept for each individual player. At the end of the tournament, the four best players will be paired to compete for first and second place. |
